Pulso Beat is publication that highlights & supports creative Latin American music all over the world. It was founded in December of 2008 for the express purpose of cultivating a space and creating a voice for original latin music that is not heard through the mainstream venues. An educational and informative voice that opens the minds of our world neighbors to the new rhythms and melodies of Latin music.

Pulso Beat's mission is to be recognized as the convergent space for independent and innovative musical expressions in all of Latin America and its global community.

Since way back in the days of 'Reggae en Espanol' (the godfather of Raggaeton) was first taking shape the voice of the southern hemisphere has been strong in expressing it's distinct identity and place in the 21st century. Unfortunetly mainstream media outlets can't wrap their heads around 'how to market' the sound of a forward pushing Latino voice .. so they give us Shakira. No dis to a homegirl from la 'quilla but  ... really ? If you think this is an acurate and fair representation of what's really out there you have been, once again, misled.

there is so much amazing, inventive, creative and important music (and art of all kind !) coming from the global latin voice and Pulso Beat is a great portal to learn from and be connected to.

as a side note the 'official' soundtrack to the film Voy a Explotar (from the production company of Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna (Y Tu Mama Tambien) is an excellent way to get a taste of the sounds happening now. Carlos Reyes did a wonderful job in compiling this collection: from the beautiful  “Cámara Lenta” by Javiera Mena (Chile) to truly forward nu-cumbia (and personal fav) of "La Bonita" from El Remolon (Argentina) and trust me, all points in between. Some lean to the more abstract while others favor a more accesible road. But ! Every single track is a unique and sincere expression of very individual artists that just happen to share the same language.

new dub_13 / Carlo Fanni collab to feat. Laura Estrada

Jim Kelly and Fred Williamson had Pam Grier ... and these punk-funk dandies have the stellar vocals of Spain's Laura Estrada. Dub_13 has joined forces with Italian producer/ Dj/ remixer Carlo Fanni (Dj Sdong) on a new collaboration.

Ms. Estrada, whom also penned the lyrics, brings a whole new dimension to the legion of boom. At the time of writting the track has the working title of 'you blow my mind'. Pre-production is underway on both sides of the Atlantic working towards a late winter release.

Born in Madrid and schooled at the Lycée Français, Laura's first performance was at the age of twelve and first studio session followed soon after at the age of thirteen. The only daughter of a musician father and an art-dealer mother she felt the gift awaken at the age of nine when she began piano lessons and composing her own songs.

Big 'tings await in the future for Laura and we are both so pleased she was able to find time in her busy schedule to work with us and bless us with her talent and positive vibez. Big up indeed, sista' !

Laura's latest release is a main room burner called 'move your feet' and is available on i-Tunes.

Pioneers of the "Cut-Up" technique Tristan Tzara & Brion Gysin sought to break the linearity of common literature. Musique Concrete composer and architect, Iannis Xenakis, viewed compositions as reification and formal structures of abstract ideas, not as ends, to be later incorporated into families of compositions. Braque & Picasso re-order perception with Cubism pushing outside the frame, revealing another dimension, digging to find a reality behind mere appearances. Henri Matisse sought "... to modify it's merely local & temporal dimensions. Hence the removal from immediate reality."

Be it the arts, science or thought it is imperative to the human experience, the journey, that we continue to question our realities, to dig deeper and expose the Matrix, because a life un-examined is a life un-lived. Conventional science seeks to reveal the physical dimension but art reveals the inner dimensions, a place beyond time and space. Artist are the scientists of the soul. Tone continues but time expires.

Dub, cut-up technique, "oblique Strategies", to mention a few, are all means of breaking the modalities of linear thinking,hard wiring deep into the sub-concious and revealing deep freedoms. But we need a balance between the temporal and visceral. And in dub I find that perfect harmony of head candy and heart frequencies.

For me Dub is an archetype, a metaphor, a science as oppsed to a genre or classification.

so ... how is all of this relevant to you being here reading this ? Well, the 21st century is very Burroughs-ian is it not ? A technocracy of pop culture, a global cut-up. But I will fore-go 'Wild Bill's' pessimism because the Orwellian realities are all too present. 

There will always be the struggle of Light v. Dark. Your reality will depend on your perspective.

But in spite of the overwhelming corporate oppression and explotation of our cultural identities the beauty and soul of the human spirit continues to thrive. Almost everyday I come across magnificent glimmers of unqiue expression. But again, this is perspective and a requirement unto myself that I continue to challenge my own preconcieved notions.

dub_13: 'Zero a.m.' ... soon come !

dub_13 new EP entitled 'zero a.m.' set for release early spring 2011.

Having spent the last year devoted to re-mixes time has come to re-focus the lens on original material. Pre-production on demos is underway at 'the vibe den'. Furthering explorations into sencha-sonics this project will feature guest vocalists and possibly a re-working of Josè Feliciano's 'rain'. At the time of writting it is planned to track vocals and mix at Robi 'draco' Rosa's 'phantom vox' studios in Hollywood, Ca.

It is expected the project will consist of 5-6 tracks and be available as a digital release.

A limited edition 'special version' will also be produced as a 2 disc set in a custom designed gatefold package. Disc one will be the original releases and disc two will be remixes by invited artists.

will be updating with more demos and news as the project develops.
